What Are The Shutters Made From?

Interior Plantation Shutters are manufactured from solid wood, MDF and Poly Vinyl. In the UK approximately 75% of shutters are made from MDF, 20% made from solid wood and the remaining 5% made from Poly Vinyl.

We Use 4 different woods to make our shutters, Cedarwood, Basswood, Larchwood and Coralwood. Plus the MDF Shutters our Craftwood Range and Poly Vinyl Shutters our Permawood range. Each material/range has its own strengths and weaknesses which can be discussed in more detail during a home survey of your windows.

What About Victorian Shutters?

When talking about shutters in the UK many people think of Victorian Pine shutters.

They were very popular in the UK and many Victorian homes especially in London still have the original Victorian shutters fitted. We manufacture solid panel shutters very similar to the Victorian shutters but they are not identical.

Our solid "Victorian shutters" are made from Basswood, a lightweight, straight grained wood which is resistant to warping and twisting. The properties of Basswood shutters make them ideal for large tall or wide windows where the weight of the shutters could be a problem.
